ABOUT ASBBS

The American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences (ASBBS) was founded in 1993 by Dr. Wali I. Mondal when he was a Professor in the School of Business at Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The mission of the conference is to foster interdisciplinary scholarship in a cordial environment. Since its inception, ASBBS has been organizing getting-to-know opportunities for the diverse groups of attendees through receptions and annual banquets. The conference attracts distinguished academics representing well-known universities throughout the world. In addition to encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, ASBBS promotes student research with a discounted registration fee. Students submit papers based on their individual research (doctoral students) or as faculty-mentored research. Many practitioners have contributed to the on-going scholarship of academics with their analysis of real-world events. During the past 33 years, ASBBS has held conferences in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Hawaii and New Orleans in the United States and many cities across the world including Aberdeen, Scotland, Bangkok, Thailand, Barcelona, Spain, Berlin, Germany, Cairns, Australia, Frankfurt, Germany, Istanbul, Turkey, London, U.K., New Delhi, India, Niigata, Japan, Paris, France and Venice, Italy.

The first conference of ASBBS, attended by 49 distinguished academics, was held in the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas . The second conference drew 102 attendees. Soon after the second conference, Pablo Mondal (below with Wali Mondal in 1995), a college Sophomore at that time, helped develop the web site of ASBBS.

After launching the website, the conference attracted academics and practitioners across the world and attendance started to grow. ASBBS would like to acknowledge the generosity of the now-defunct Holiday Inn Boardwalk Hotel and Casino of Las Vegas, where eight consecutive annual conferences took place. Over the years, many people helped manage the ASBBS conferences, but the contributions of ASBBS Manager Raji Chakrapani ( seated above left) stand out.

Best Paper Awards: As an interdisciplinary conference, ASBBS encourages diversity and collaboration of muti-disciplinary scholarship. Each paper submitted to the conference is reviewed by referees who have expertise in the area of submission. Complete papers are reviewed competitively by a committee for the Best Paper of a Track award. Authors of Best Papers are recognized with a Certificate at the ASBBS Annual Banquet held during the conference. Year after year, ASBBS annual conferences are attended by colleagues who keep coming back. Below are two colleagues from the Sanit Bonaventure University (Carl Case, right and Darwin King, left), each of whom has attended, presented and received the Best Paper awards in more than 20 annual and international conferences. Looking on at the far left is Lisa Flynn representing SUNY, Oneonta who has been serving ASBBS in several roles including Track Chair, Hospitality Chair and Program Chair for twelve years.

Faculty-Sponsored Student Research: ASBBS promotes mentoring of undergraduate and graduate student research by their Professors. Below is Professor Frank Bacon of Longwood University flanked by two happy students after receiving the Best Paper awards for two co-authored papers.

ASBBS FELOWS Award: Professor William J. Kehoe, since retired as William F. O’Dell Professor of Commerce, University of Virginia contributed enormously to the growth and excellence of the ASBBS. One of his significant contributions is the creation of the ASBBS Fellow, the highest award of the Association. Below is Professor Kehoe handing out one of the ASBBS Fellow’s awards to Professor Carol Sullivan, who served as the ASBBS as the Program Chair for two consecutive years and also received the Best Paper award for several papers.

Below are two distinguished colleagues, Pani Chakrapani representing the University of Redlands (holding the award) and Jake Zhu representing the California State University, San Bernardino (far left) who have contributed to the excellence of ASBBS thorough many years of their service as Proceedings Editors and Program Chairs. Each was inducted as ASBBS Fellow in different years.
